The Elevator Pitch

In 30 seconds or less, tell me what you do and why I should care. THAT is an elevator pitch.

Networking. It’s that time for connecting with others. For some it’s anxiety-producing. For others it’s exciting and fun. With each person you meet, you’ll be returning to your elevator pitch again and again. Many times, you’ll need your 30 second introduction for the entire group.

Crafting an authentic and attention-grabbing summary of what exactly you do that could be told within the length of an elevator ride is a lot easier said than done. However, the ultimate goal is to create connection and curiosity.

Walking into a networking event armed with words prepared ahead of time helps to create that strong first impression most of us want to have.

Creating a One-Liner: Your Elevator Pitch

As a member of the Professional Photographers of America, I receive their monthly publication. It’s always filled with wisdom, inspiration, and knowledge to be gleaned and used within my photography business and within my personal work. In the July 2024 issue, there was a summary of an educational video created by Mary Fisk-Taylor of Hayes & Fisk Photography. I thought I’d share her quick how-to guide with you because I found it helpful. I thought it might be for you as well.

To create an elevator pitch, ask yourself these three questions:

1. What is your ideal client’s biggest pain point?

Making branding photography and portraits can feel very hard, from finding the time, to feeling confident in front of the camera, to loving the results.

2. What products or services do you provide that address this pain point?

I create branding photography through a collaborative and guided process to find the root of a branding story so that we can show the people, personalities, products, promotions, and behind-the-scenes of a personal or business brand through beautiful photography.

3. How will the results of doing business with you make them feel?

The entire experience is created to guide the client from the very start to the finish point so that they feel comfortable, confident, and supported. They walk away with beautiful photography to promote their personal or business brand through their marketing.

Then, put your responses together:

I am here to take one thing off your mile long to-do list by creating a strategized library of branding images that shows off your beautiful inner spark. I do this by working through a collaborative process so that on the day of your session, you’ll walk away with an extra bounce in your step and a variety of images that tell your branding story to include the people, personalities, products, behind-the-scenes, and more.

(I’d love any feedback.)

Now you go. Write it all down and email me.

I’d love to cheer you on. And if I can help fill in the visual gaps for your personal or business brand, even if it’s just a headshot, please let me know! I’ll love to connect with you.
