The Secret Ingredient Behind Every Photo Session
Every photo session involves lighting, cameras, selecting locations, wardrobes…all of that matters. However, the key ingredient for every photo session is actually love. This is probably more obvious if you are viewing this from the angle of a family session or a wedding. However, love is incredibly important for my branding work as well. Hear me out.
The Photography Lesson That Changed Everything for me
In 2019, I took a photography class with the incredible Yan Palmer. She said something that since stuck with me: “I fall in love with every human in front of my lens.”
Those words felt like a permission slip for me. Because deep down, that’s what I’d already been striving to do—approach every portrait session with open eyes, open heart, and full presence. It’s not about forcing connection. It’s about noticing the little things that make someone completely and authentically themselves. All of my poses are based on what I see in front of me already, just guided to take it up a notch.
What “Falling in Love” with Clients Actually Looks Like
That love is because I care deeply about each client and not everyone realizes that. I value you as a human and as an individual. I search for what makes you unique.
I believe so much in the work that I do that I venture to say that I care about the outcome just as much as you do. I want to feel proud of the work I put into the world and want to see you light up with the photos we’ve made together.
What “falling in love” looks like for me:
During our session:
- Noticing the spark in someone’s eyes when they talk about their business
- Catching that quiet laugh when they finally let their guard down
- Honoring the quirks and mannerisms that make them beautifully human
Behind the scenes:
It means putting my whole heart into the parts of the process people rarely see. I spend time carefully planning each session, listening closely to what my client hopes for, and thinking about how their personal branding photos will be used. After the session, I pour hours into polishing their images, making sure your images reflect your personality.
Why This Photography Approach Matters
Most people don’t realize how much energy and intention goes into each photo session. And honestly? I want you to love your photos even more than I do. That’s always my hope.
There’s nothing better than seeing a client proudly share their images—on their website, in marketing materials, or simply framed at home. Every time, it’s a reminder that this work matters. Those moments keep me motivated to keep creating meaningful portraits.
The Clients Who Inspire My Best Work
The clients who value this heart-centered process are often the ones I find myself going above and beyond for. When someone shows up with trust, openness, and appreciation for the creative process, it fuels my creativity and makes me want to give everything I’ve got.
Because love works both ways in photography. A photo session isn’t just about delivering a gallery of nice images. It’s about the relationship, the collaboration, and the way those photos will support someone’s personal brand and story long after our time together is over.
Love: The Thread That Connects Every Image
So yes, the secret ingredient in extraordinary photography really is love. It’s what threads every image together. It’s what transforms a photo session from a simple transaction into a meaningful collaboration. And it’s why I’ll never stop putting my whole heart into the people who step in front of my lens.
